Training and awareness

justinedixonandrodrigoedema2010We can provide a variety of training and the list below is not exhaustive, please contact us for further information.

Talks to groups and other services

We can come along and talk to your group/organisation about what advice work involves, what services Sheffield Mental Health Citizens Advice Bureau can provide and give examples of how we have worked with people in the past.

If you would like us to talk to you about our services etc please contact us using the details below the menu on the right.

Mental health awareness

We can provide training to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of mental illness, reduce stigma and discrimination associated with mental ill health, and share ways to help someone who is suffering from mental distress.

Benefits and mental health

Some people living with mental health problems can find it difficult, or even impossible, to cope with complicated benefits issues which sometimes demand interviews or physical examinations, and benefit application forms can be time-consuming and bewildering. Even when clients have succeeded in claiming the appropriate benefits, maintaining entitlement is not easy when faced with regular reassessment.

Our training can enable you to have a positive impact on the benefit entitlements of your clients and help them to protect their existing income.  We can offer sessions on:

  • Be able to recognise key issues and the barriers affecting clients living with mental health needs.
  • Identify potential benefits available to those in mental ill-health, Including how benefits can be affected while in hospital.
  • DLA, Attendance Allowance and incapacity for work benefits such as ESA, in a mental health context.
  • Successful transition from Incapacity to ESA.
  • JSA and availability for work – a guide to directions/sanctions/limitations on health grounds.
  • The Permitted Work Rules.
  • The difference income maximisation makes.
  • We can also provide a useful list of organisations that can help people with a variety of mental health issues.
