The improvements in health as a result of getting advice are being increasingly well documented and researched (Royal College of Psychiatry, Legal Service Commission, Citizens Advice). We see this for ourselves on a daily basis. Helping people who use mental health services to sort out their financial and housing problems while they are in hospital can, for example, make going home quicker, reduce stress and anxiety and reduce the need for drugs and psychiatric services. We can give free, independent and confidential help and advice on a wide variety of subjects including benefits, debt, housing, health or care services and also help you with complaints about your care by helping you to get your views heard. As members of Citizens Advice (a national organisation), we have to work within strict guidelines to provide a high standard of quality of advice service. This bureau scored 90%+ in the last audit, which few bureaux achieve. (Find out more about Citizens Advice nationally.) |
