Turning evidence into action

What happens to our bureau evidence?

When we work with people sometimes we realise that what’s happening to them could also happen to a lot of other people in their situation, that is, we spot a social policy issue.

When we spot a social policy issue we write a report and send it to Citizens Advice, the national office. First we make sure that the report is anonymous – no one can identify the person from the report.

Citizens Advice collects reports like ours from across the country. If they find that enough people are being affected by the same issue they may run a national campaign (visit Citizens Advice Campaigning for Change for more information).

We also let our clients know that, depending on the problem, they too can take action, for example by complaining to their MP, Councillor or to the relevant Ombudsman Service.
