About our Advice Service (CAB)
The bureau provides an advice service (CAB) for mental health service users in Sheffield and priority is given to inpatients, users of the Sheffield Outreach Team (SORT) and Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment service.
We help our clients with a variety of enquiries such as benefits, consumer issues, welfare rights etc, and legal advice under the Mental Health Act.
We also see people who have been referred to us by the User Appreciation Scheme for benefit checks etc.
You can access our Advice Service yourself by phone or you can ask your support worker to contact us on your behalf. Please see our contact details below. Further details as follows:

Telephone Advice: is available on 0114 271 8025 on Mondays 10.00am — 12.00noon (Suspended until further notice)
An opportunity to speak to an Advice Worker, who will be able to help with your enquiry.
At all other times, there is a voicemail facility. Please leave a message and someone will get back to you. Please note that voicemail is checked several times a day (except weekends and bank holidays).
Mobile Advice Service: currently goes to St Wilfrid's Day Centre on a weekly basis on alternate Mondays or Thursdays and is only available to those people using this Day Centre. Availability is advertised at St Wilfrid's.
Drop-in Advice Service: is available at the Michael Carlisle Centre only and priority will be given to inpatients.
Appointments Only Advice Service: is available at the both inpatient sites based at Michael Carlisle and Longley Centres. Priority will be given to inpatients.
Advice via Email: is not currently available.
Home Visits: we will do home visits only when there isn't an alternative and we have advisers / advocates available.
Legal Help: this service is funded by the Legal Services Commission to provide independent advice to people detained under the Mental Health Act.

If you wish to contact our bureau for advice, then please phone 0114 271 8025 and leave a message on the voicemail and someone will phone you back. Please state clearly your name and telephone number and the reason for your call (but please keep it brief).
The voicemail is checked several times during the day except weekends, Bank Holidays and Christmas holidays.
Alternatively, you could ask your support worker or ward staff to contact us on your behalf.
